Friday Walk

Well it has been staying cool here, but next week is supposed to warm up and then the snow will really start melting.  Mom and I decided to take a walk down to the river yesterday.
Me on the lookout in my peeps backyard.
So that right there is the South Saskatchewan river.  If you look at the upper left hand side of the picture you will see some melting around the island there.  People are still driving across the ice road but they are being cautioned to drive slow and follow the ruts as it is getting soft.  Why drive slow?  Because if you drive fast you create waves and the waves will break the ice.  Ask some people how they know that.  Driving fast on the ice road now is NOT advisable!
Down at the river
You can see how far up the riverbank the water was when it froze last fall.  Mom kept me on my leash while we were down near the river.  She didn't want me running on the ice just in case I found a soft spot in it.
Another picture of the river looking the other direction.
Another picture of the river and the creative photo angle comes from mom slipping on the ice!  BOL!  Yeah, so we went walking along the shore, which is really ice and snow right now and because it is starting to melt, mom kept breaking through and sinking in the snow or falling.  It was kinda funny.

Then we encountered a porcupine on the trail.  Now remember I was on my leash, and mom did all she could to keep me from saying hi to the porcupine!  In fact, she dragged me up a side trail to get away from it.  The problem with the side trail was it was a vertical sheet of ice at the top with no footholds.  Mom decided we had to try and get up this way because she didn't want me playing with the porcupine.  So she tried to kick footholds in the ice and grab onto trees to help her up.  And then she lost her footing and slid all the way to bottom and had me land on top. BOL.  Then she decided to try the trail again, but remember the porcupine(?), he was still there!  Back to the vertical wall of ice we go and mom was successful in getting up it this time.  She did hurt her shoulder when slid down the first time though.  Oh well!

Back up on the top of the riverbank
Sorry, but mom didn't take a picture of the vertical wall of ice! Mom really wasn't sure the camera would work anymore because she kind landed on top of it when she slid down the wall of ice.  This pictures shows a bit of the melting around the island in the river.

Anywhoodle, we had a very good walk yesterday and then mom and I retreated into the house, where I lounged in a sunny patch in the den and  mom worked on her cross stitch picture.

Yesterday evening we went out for another walk and guess what?  Mom slipped again on the ice and really whacked the same shoulder she injured earlier in the day.  I was a good pup and ran over to her as she lay moaning on the snow and I licked her face and tried to sit on top of her.  I am ever so helpful!

Her shoulder, arm and hand are real sore today.  If it continues, maybe I should take her to the vet!

Later in the evening mom and I enjoyed watching some WWE Smackdown and then mom finally finished doing something she has been working on for a long time.
Cross stitch finished March 28, 2014
Now mom needs to mat and frame this picture.

We hope everyone is having an awesome weekend!

Mom is taking over my blog!

Ok, mom says she has to take over my blog to show Zoe's mom the socks she knitted.  I apologize in advance for this boring entry!
The sock's mom knitted
Yeah, they are nice!  She used a special kind of wool that automatically makes the pattern as you knit the socks.
One of the socks actually on her foot
These were the first things she ever knitted and thought they were easy.  Apparently most people don't start out with knitting socks, but gradually work their way up to socks.
Don't I look thrilled in this one!
As it is my blog, I deserve to be in at least one picture don't you think!  Mom remembers ordering the pattern and the wool from Mary Maxim.  She thinks once she is finished with the cross stitch project she has been working on, she would like to do another knitting project.
Mom has placed all the full and 1/2 cross stitches and is now working on the detailing
So far today she has not worked on this project.  Instead she did this.......
Double chocolate biscotti
Yeah, she made a batch of double chocolate biscotti and used Kahlua instead of vanilla for the flavouring.  Now if only she would make some doggie biscotti!

Thanks for stopping by pals and I hope this entry didn't bore you too much.
Gratuitous picture of me!!

Sunshine Award

Our pawsome pals over at Love is being owned by a husky! presented us with the Sunshine Award on Monday!  Thank you so much Lexus, Mika and Koda!

So the rules are to thank the person that gave you the award - ok, thank you again Lexus, Mika and Koda!

I can also tell you 10 things about myself.  Hmm, now should that be me or the momma that you might want to learn 10 things about!  Mom is really boring pups, so it might be hard for her to come up with 10 things but let's try.

1. I am a refugee from Dogster and had been a member of Dogster for many years and was saddened to learn that it might be closing down.  We now have a reprieve, but I started this blog for Buddy just in case Dogster no longer exists.

2. I am slowly learning things about blogging!  I am learning things everyday reading the blogs I am following and am still learning how to add links, pictures, put captions to pictures, generally just learning how to format in this blogger world.

3. I enjoy cross stitching and have been working on one picture for a number of years now.  This current picture is on 22 count aida, and I have finally finished placing the full and half cross stitches.  Now I am working on the detailing.  I might actually get that picture done this year.

4. I taught myself to knit several years ago and the first thing I knitted for myself was socks.  I will have to post a picture here for Zoe's momma's perusal!  I have knitted socks for every family member and just learned how to knit slippers.

5. I enjoy baking and am always looking on the internet for new recipes to try.  Some even turn out well.

6. I have been to China and walked on the Great Wall.  It really is a Great Wall and I actually experienced vertigo walking on it.  I did think the KFC at the base of the Great Wall was a little tacky!

7. I have visited the ancient city of Pompeii and was freaked out by the bats circling the outdoor coliseum but amazed by that city in general.  Be sure to heed the siren that sounds in the evening or you will be locked into the city!  Don't worry, after every congregates at the gate, they let you out.

8. Okay, enough about mom, Buddy here!  I was born into a Northern Community in the province of Saskatchewan and was relinquished to the rescue I was adopted from at the age of 5 months.

9. Some of you on Dogster might remember how sick I was when I came to my furever home and I thank mom and dad for looking after me so well.

10. Mom would like to try and get me into agility this year.  I think she really needs the exercise! BOL!

Ok, that was a mixture of facts about me and mom.  Hope we didn't bore anyone with those facts!

Now I am to nominate 10 blogs for the Sunshine Award.  This one is hard because we are fairly new to this blog thing and we are only following a few blogs. We enjoy reading all of our friend's blogs so we think you all should have the Sunshine Award!  Therefore, to any of my pals reading this entry, consider yourselves presented with the Sunshine Award and if you wish to share 10 things about yourselves in your blogs, please do.

My Morning Walk

Since we like looking at pictures of our pals walks, mom thought it would be a good idea to take a picture of me on my morning walk today.
Testing out the snow before the walk!

After determining that the snow was just the right consistency that I like we started out on our walk.
Tagging along behind mom.
It was a very nice sunny morning when we left for our walk but it didn't take long for the freezing rain and snow to start.  No matter!  We just keep walking.
Buddy - 1; field mouse - 0
No walk is complete without a little digging.  I scored on this one!  Yeah me!  Oh and that pink house off in the distance - that is my place!
Another shot of my digging form!
With it warming up, I am really hearing lots of critters under the snow and it is ever so much fun to dig in it.
Watching horses in the neighbor's field.
After all that digging, I needed to take a break and just watch the horses in the neighbor's field.  He was also feeding them and I saw a big tractor moving around over there.  Mom keeps a close eye on me when the neighbor's are working in their fields, because I just wanna go say hi, and mom says dogs and tractors don't mix!
I am a happy boy!
I love nothing better than to get out in the snow and run and enjoy myself.  I really don't like summer much.  I realize you aren't seeing too much scenery on this walk, and mom says that is because I spent so much time digging and running and digging and running.
Action shot of me running!
I was being a good boy here and I did come when mom called me to her!
My backyard!
This is me checking out the snow in the back yard.  Yes, I am walking in this picture.  Summer will be nice because the river in my back yard will be flowing.  People do drive across the river in the winter on the ice road, but the ice is starting to get water on top of it, so the road won't be safe to drive across for too much longer.  Once the ice melts the ferry starts running and I love taking ferry rides across the river.

So that was morning walk!  Not much scenery like I said, but at least I had a good time digging!  Maybe next time I will cooperate with mom and she can take a few better pictures of where I live!

Hope everyone is having a great day.

Ok pups, the long awaited recipes are here!  Mom has been busy doing what she calls spring cleaning!  Pffffft!  I think she should be making these for me!

Mom has only made these for me once, but they are really good and freeze well.

2 cups spelt flour
3 tbsp ground flaxseed
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 cup natural peanut butter
1/3 cup mashed ripe banana
2 eggs
1/4 cup pure maple syrup

Preheat oven to 300 F.  Combine flour, flaxseed and cinnamon in a medium bowl.  Set aside.

In a large bowl, whisk together peanut butter, banana, eggs and maple syrup until smooth. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix well.  Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.  Add a bit more flour if dough is too sticky.  Cut cookies with a cookie cutter and place on cookie sheet.  Bake for 30 minutes.  Cool completely on a wire rack.  Store in the fridge.  Can be frozen.

This next recipe is mom's favorite and she makes this one a lot.  It freezes very well.  Sorry about the original title mom gave it!

3 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups rolled oats
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/4 cup skim milk powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 1/4 cups water
1/3 cup peanut butter
1/3 cup pumpkin puree (optional)
1 egg

Oven at 275 F.

Combine flour, oats, wheat germ, powdered milk and garlic powder together. In blender combine water, peanut butter and egg until smooth. Add liquid to flour mixture - this will create a very stiff dough. Roll out on floured surface and cut into shapes. Bake 1 1/2 to 2 hours.  Should be very hard and crunchy.

This next recipe mom has not made for me.  She did, however, make it a lot for Angel Abby.

1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup corn meal
1/2 cup wheat germ
1 tsp garlic powder
1 pound beef liver

Liquefy the liver in a blender or food processor, add dry ingredients.  Drop a teaspoonful of mixture onto a greased cookie sheet.   Flatten cookies with the bottom of a glass dipped in water and cornmeal.  Bake for 15-20 minutes in 350 F oven.
(Mom says she can no longer stomach the liquefying of the liver and that these cookies smell bad when cooking!  I think these are all good reason to make them for me!)

Well, there you have it pups!  Hope these are helpful and let me know if you try any of these recipes out!

Dangerous Wildlife

So this morning the momma takes me out early to do my usual morning constitutional.  I stop, sit down and look towards the garden and then I growl.  Mom quickly, and I mean quickly, snaps on my leash and then she sees a large object lumbering across the garden.

She literally has to drag me away and demands I do my business quickly.  Really pups, how could I do my business quickly when there was something interesting in my yard?  Eventually, I do my business but I am still very curious about what is in the garden.  The momma literally drags me into the house and then gets the camera and goes back outside.
Meet my little friend!
That is a pretty good sized porcupine don't you think?  Mom says I can't play with it, and I have to be on a leash when I am outside now.

Mom was working yesterday and a bunch of people told her about an owl that has been terrorizing the town that is close to where we live.  There is a Great Horned Owl hanging around the town.  On Tuesday, it killed one small dog,  and later in the week severely injured another and two more were slightly injured.  We haven't heard of any cat's being attacked but who knows for sure.  The town's people have called in a Conservation Officer to try and trap the owl and relocate it.  They realize it is looking for food, but it can look elsewhere than going after family pets.  Most people are now using pee pads for the small dogs.

We do see owls out where I live, but mom is hoping my size would deter them from trying to go after me.

I have also developed a bad habit that mom would like me to break.  I like to eat stones.  Yup, I pooped out about 3 small ones this morning and a couple weeks ago I vomited 3 small ones.  I seem to only do this in winter and mom wonders if it is because I like to eat ice and the stones are cold, so I just swallow them.  No matter.  She says I have to quit.

Oh, and mom will be putting some recipes for doggie treats on an upcoming blog.  She is too lazy right now to get her cookbook and type everything in, but stay tuned and she will post some recipes.  Maybe now she can take the treats she has frozen out of the freezer, give me one and take a picture of them for you!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
