How many days till Christmas?

Well there are
That's how many days till Christmas!

Is it me, or is it creepy that Santa sees us when we are awake or are sleeping and he knows when we have been good or bad?  Isn't this called stalking, BOL!  Hmmm, mom was always afraid of Santa and that is why there are no pictures of her as a child on Santa's knee!

Today has started out very foggy
My river - December 19, 2014
Of course the weather always has to change right before Christmas.  We have a forecast calling for fog, freezing drizzle and snow.  What kinda of weather are you expecting for Christmas?

Guess who is hiding under here?
No, not Santa, BOL!  That durn skwerl is under here!  One of these days my friend!

Mom will be going soon to visit grammy in the nursing home.  Grammy asked mom if she could bring me next spring or summer to see her, and I think that is a pawsome idea, don't you?

Before mom's trip we did take a  nice walk and I once again found something vile and disgusting to roll in!  Your welcome mom!
Dashing through the snow!

Mom is seriously thinking about getting me sleigh and a harness!  Oh my dogness!  Maybe she thinks I should pull her around all winter!  She tells me I am part Husky and that is what I should do!

Charge!!!!
Well, as mom is heading out soon, we would like to wish each and everyone of you a very happy and safe holiday season!

Take care all!

My Evil Nemesis

While on surveillance in my yard today, I came across something that caused me to sit down and ponder my options.

Keeping an eye on evil nemesis!

This fella thinks he is being clever, but I am finding him annoying!

EVIL NEMESIS

Calling all pups!  If anyone wants to help me chase this critter just let me know!

This is a video of me inviting the critter to play.  Please let me know if it doesn't work!

Almost Got Him

It has continued being mild up here lately.  It is so mild in fact that my river is starting to melt!
South Saskatchewan River, December 12, 2014
Last year on this date the ice road opened up and people could drive across the frozen river.  That isn't gonna happen this year.  It will be cooler next week, but not cool enough to freeze the river to the thickness we need.  Come on -30 C weather, BOL!

Mom and I had a most enjoyable walk this morning.  It is awesome to get covered in mud in December no less!

On returning to our yard, I quickly disappeared.  Mom had no idea where I was and was calling me and then she heard a weird noise.  Just then she saw a red squirrel come racing up beside the house and it quickly found refuge in the undercarriage of her truck.  I was in hot pursuit, and circled the truck trying to convince the critter to come out and play, BOL.

Mom banged on the truck and the critter jumped down and went racing around the garage with me in hot pursuit.

I came ever so close to catching that mischievous critter.  The day is still young, so I might still get him.

Anywoodle, we had a most enjoyable walk in the mild weather today, but personally, I cannot wait for it to get much colder!

Wish me luck in tracking down that squirrel!!!  Later everyone!

Enjoying the mild temperatures today!

At Least It Is a Dry Cold

It has been cold here of late.  With the windchill it was -42 C on the weekend.  How cold is that?  Well, your freezer is probably set warmer, BOL!

It is so cold that this morning when mom and I were outside to see dad off to work, I ran back to the door and wanted inside.  Why should I freeze outside?  I let mom see dad off to work without me!

The cold means one thing is for sure.  My river will soon be frozen solid and people can start crossing the ice road.
My river (Picture taken December 1, 2014)
Yeah, so you can see a bit of open water still in the river, but it is gonna be frozen in no time.

Dashing through the snow
I did have a bit of fun outside this morning.  While mom shovelled a bit of snow, I did some dashing in the snow.  I wouldn't let her put my winter jacket on me this morning, and I do not like those booties, so they are not on either!

I must have been a very good boy, because this arrived for me last week.
My mystery box
Mom is storing this box in the garage for now.  She tried to get a picture of me beside it, but for some reason I have never liked going in the garage, so no picture of me beside this box.  I know what you are thinking, gee Buddy what are you gonna do with that?  Pups, the box is full of deer bones, courtesy of a hunter friend of the peeps.  Mom is rationing the deer bones right now, but they sure are tasty!

Well stay warm pals and to all my pals in the U S of A, I hope you had a very happy and safe Thanksgiving last week.

We Got Snow

Oh, I am such a happy boy because we got snow!  This time I am sure it is gonna stay!  No warming up and melting this time around, I have several months of fun in the snow.

It has been progressively getting cooler here.  You know it is gonna get much cooler when we see this:
Sun dogs!
That ring around the sun is called sun dogs.  Now sun dogs form when there are ice crystals in the atmosphere and the sun reflects off them.  Kinda cool, but it also means it is gonna get cold!

The same day mom took that picture my river started to look like this:
The South Saskatchewan River
There is still open water on the river, but the ice chunks are so big now that the ferries have stopped crossing.  Now we must wait until it is frozen solid and then people go across on the ice road.  Mom has never gotten up enough nerve to take the ice road and prefers to drive all the way around, BOL.  One of these days she might get brave enough to try crossing the river in winter.

Just a couple days ago we were out walking when mom and I saw this:
Blue floating thing
We have absolutely no idea what this is, but it was floating down the river!

Today I woke up to this:
Oh happy day!
The weather was really bad yesterday and I guess the roads were bad and very icy.  The peeps and I stayed home and watched it snow and blow.  I was so happy to see this this morning!
Ahhhh!
I only wish my peeps enjoyed the snow as much as me!  Mom says soon we will be going for snowshoe walks again.  Mom thinks we need a bit more snow before she brings out the snowshoes, but I am ready whenever she is!
Guess the critter!
Of course the snow makes hunting for critters much easier because you can see their tracks much better.
More critter tracks!
It is also much easier to see where they might be hiding.  You can clearly see where these guys are hiding!
On patrol!

I am happiest when I have snow on my nose!

Reflections of my Summer and early Fall

You see pups, I told mom she had to hurry up and get some pictures on my blog because we were gonna have snow soon.  Yesterday we woke up to this.
Yeah snow!
Unfortunately the snow did not last very long and by noon it was almost all gone.

We did have a lovely summer on the prairies and you know summer is coming to an end when you start seeing hay bales.
Hay bales
Now you wanna be careful when you are baling, because your baler might just over heat and cause problems.

Bale on fire
One of our neighbors had his baler over heat and it caused the bale to catch fire.  Luckily the fire department came out quickly.  Mom and I were walking down our country road when the emergency crews went racing by us.  The fire was very close to our place, but luckily it was contained quickly.
After math of the fire
The fire went right over the river bank and even the fire truck went over the river bank to put it out.  The crew was here for several hours and it still smells bad in this area.
Another fire picture
One thing about our late summer and early fall is that we get spectacular sunsets.
Mid summer sunset
Yea, it looks real nice when the sun reflects off the river.

Late summer sunset
As the summer fades, we start getting more colors in the sunset.
Early fall sunset
Yup, the sunsets start to be very beautiful in fall!

Now fall also means it is my  momma's birthday.  This last weekend was her birthday and she is really old!  Now what do you get your really old momma for her birthday!
Porcupine quill!
Now I thought this porcupine quill that I had in my nose was the perfect birthday gift.  She was not so appreciative!  Can you believe it?  But she started giving me a good petting and then she found.
More quills!
Luckily I stopped at three quills.  She really didn't seem that happy about them!  Go figure!

Now you know it is fall when the birds start migrating.
Quick!  Count the geese!
We have been having flocks and flocks of geese flying over the house and these guys were really being noisy yesterday.

Mom is slowly catching up on getting the garden produce looked after, and today she made some kinda beet and cabbage relish.  Supposedly it tastes good.  I will probably never get a taste of it.

Mom and I did take a  nice walk in the snow yesterday.
Our pawprints in the snow
I am certainly hoping that we get more snow soon.  Mom would prefer to wait a little longer, but I say bring it on.

On patrol yesterday

Reflections of my Summer

Well my typist is really bad of late in sitting down and updating my blog.  She has been being creative with pumpkins and zucchinis and beets and various other garden produce.  Have I gotten a taste of anything?  No!!!

So I said to the typist that she should post some of my summer pictures before too long, because, you know, we have already had a few skiffs of snow and soon there will be lots of snow pictures.  I am now sitting on top of her making her update my blog.

 Anyone know what these are?
That right there is gooseberries.  Make very tasty pies.  I wouldn't know.  I didn't get a piece of any gooseberry pie!

Another sure sign of summer!
I tried eating one of those things this summer and I don't advise it!

Crabapples!
The peeps crabapple tree has never produced really well, but this year mom got a gallon bucket of crabapples.  Apparently they are very tasty!  I didn't get to sample any!

Goat's Beard
Mom tried for days to get a good picture of a Goat's Beard.  She liked this one so much that she sent it to the television station and they used it on the evening news!

Gratuitous picture of me!
Mom says this picture of me reminds her of the tv show "The Littlest Hobo"!  I think the theme music to that show is pretty good!

The face only a mother could love!
That right there is a cutworm and him and his friends were doing nasty things to mom's garden produce.  I don't recommend trying to eat them.  They are NOT tasty!

Cranberries

The cranberry tree did all right this summer.  Mom was away looking after grammy when they were ripe enough to pick.  I have been sampling them every once in a while.  They are ok, but not my favorite fruit in the yard.

Goat's beard blowing in the wind
Mom tried to get a picture of the Goat's beard blowing in the wind and this is the best she could get.  I told her to let me sneeze on it, but she wouldn't let me.

Me!
Mom and I were out on a nice walk before she went back to be with grammy in this picture.  It was a totally pawsome day and I was very happy!

Grapes!
Mom picked the grapes after they were ripe and froze them.  She will juice them and then make jelly out of them.  They turned a beautiful purple color, but sorry, no picture of what they looked like when they were ripe!

Pumpkin

Mom got a lot of pumpkins and some are still ripening.  So far she has made pumpkin and potato soup and pumpkin loaves with them.  She is gonna make me a batch of doggie cookies soon with some of the pumpkin.   Or so she says!  Can't wait mom!

Say hello to my little friend!
He didn't say much and kept sticking his tongue out at me and then he slithered back down his hole!

Russian Sage
One of mom's favorite plants in the flower garden.  It really did well this year and she just loves the purple color!

Goodies from the garden

I hope mom has not bored you pups with this trip through our yard this summer.

Now I think I must go supervise her while she does something creative with some more of this garden produce.

Take care all!
